With the creation of electric power system of Mari El in 1985 on the basis of electrical network of Gorki power system a strong need of personnel for the energetic enterprises of the republic of Mari El arised.Mari State University had the most qualified higher-education teaching personnel of physico-mathematical profile and that is why in 1992 in the Physics and Mathematics School a new speciality was established - "100400 Industry power supply" with the plan of 50 students for full-time and 25 - part-time.
In 1996 the Energy Supply School was set up on the basis of a Physics and Mathematics School Study program.At present there are two departments in the School: the Department of power supply and the Department of electromechanics.The School possesses more than 20 laboratories, classrooms for project development, computer classroom, practice ground. The Department of power supply has postgraduate training for the speciality "The electrotechnical facilities and systems".and professional courses for the engineering and technical personnel of electroenergetical profile. In the School there are 37 teachers. Among them there are 5 Professors (4 Doctors and 1 Candidate of Sciences), 25 Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences and 11 members of auxiliary educational staff.
The School is developing its relations with such educational establishments as Moscow Energy Institute, Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University, Saint-Petersburg Polytechnical University, Ekaterinburg Polytechnical University, Novosibirsk Electrotechnical University, Chelyabinsk Agroengineering Unibersity, Ivano-Frankovsk Technical University and others.
